Research
The scope of the research in the division of computer engineering covers from design of ASIP (Application Specific Instruction-set Processors) and on chip multiple ASIP processors for communications and multimedia. The research activities include application code analysis, instruction set design, design for function acceleration, design for the programming method, firmware design, and related toolchain.
In contrast to general purpose microprocessors, ASIP give much higher performance, lower power, and lower silicon costs because of the optimized application specific instruction set and microarchitecture.
ASIP research is a challenging area. The required knowledge for ASIP research is broad, ranging from applications, architecture selection, code compiling, parallel programming, microarchitecture, down to silicon fabrication.
